INTRODUCTION

TENNOZ ART WEEK is an event aimed at bridging Japan and the international art scene, and contributing to the invigoration of international cultural tourism by bringing world-class art content to the Tennoz art district and creating a platform for domestic and international art professionals and enthusiasts to gather. Now in its third year, the event will be held across Warehouse TERRADA’s six venues, showcasing a variety of programs including Nile Koetting’s performative installation inspired by warehouse spaces; Atsushi Suwa’s first large-scale solo exhibition in approximately three years; a group exhibition with numerous galleries; an art workshop utilizing traditional materials; and more. Through works that transcend genres and generations, the event offers a broad presentation of the current state of contemporary art.

PROGRAM DETAIL

Blossoms – fulfillment

Blossoms – fulfillment

Blossoms - fulfillment is the title a new work by Nile Koetting that evolved from Blossoms, a work he showed at the Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM) in Lisbon, Portugal in 2024. It represents the first public display of a performative installation by Koetting in Japan. He transforms warehouse space into a stage to take another look at the meaning and functions of venues and viewers through his unique artistic language.

Painting Flowers on Silk Canvas

Experience the beauty of silk painting as you paint flowers on traditional silk canvas in this workshop.
Throughout history, artists around the world have created paintings on fabric.
In East Asian art, silk canvas made from silkworm cocoons has long been valued as a painting surface.
This ultra-thin, nearly transparent material allows artists to paint from the reverse side, creating layered effects that are visible from the front. It also enables the expression of delicate, seamless gradations of color, one of silk’s most distinctive characteristics.
Although silk canvases typically require meticulous preparation compared to other substrates, the materials for this workshop will be pre-prepared, allowing you to begin painting right away.
By applying traditional colors to the smooth surface of silk, you will engage with the refined aesthetic sensibilities of Edo-period painters.

Galleries based at TERRADA ART COMPLEX will host a group exhibition in collaboration with partner galleries from across Japan. Many of the participating galleries have few opportunities to showcase their work in Tokyo, making this a special art exhibition where visitors can experience the current landscape of contemporary art in Japan. It features unique group presentations by artists and galleries active both in Japan and internationally—exhibitions that can only be seen here.
*Please note that some resident galleries may not participate in the group exhibition.

Blurred: Intersecting Boundaries

BONDED GALLERY presents works by Ayako Kuno, Yuki Nara, and Masayoshi Nojo—three emerging artists who fuse traditional Japanese techniques with contemporary art.
Their practices traverse diverse realms—metal and the city, architecture and ceramics, photography and memory—subtly shifting the boundaries we unconsciously take for granted. In a world where everything tends to be quantified and clearly defined, their expressions reveal the beauty of ambiguity that quietly resides in the in-between—the kind of ambiguity signified by the word “Blurred.”
Through contemporary reconstructions of traditional methods such as metalwork, ceramics, and metal leaf, the exhibition invites viewers to experience a world that gently wavers between clearly drawn lines.
